SAIT-1 (Super Advanced Intelligent Tape) is a data storage format which was developed with both features an MIC chip (the brains) and a pure metal magnetic layer by Sony, especially for reliably storing computer data. The SAIT-1 drive ensures extreme reliability with increased back-up capacity and is designed for strenuous, high duty-cycle applications. SAIT-1 was developed for the purpose of efficiently and reliably storing large amounts of data. The recording capacity 500GB to more than 1300 gigabytes together with a data transfer speed of 30 MB/sec. Besides, First generation S-AIT drives incorporated into automation solutions will provide uncompressed capacities ranging from 10TB in a space-efficient configuration to more than 500TB in a 1,000 cartridge freestanding library.
