8mm AME Mammoth Cleaning Tape Cartridges
Designed specifically for use with the Mammoth tape drive, the Mammoth cleaning cartridge provides fast and easy preventive maintenance. Just insert the cartridge into a Mammoth drive - the rest is automatic. A Mammoth tape drive should be cleaned at least once a month or after every 30 hours of operation.
Mammoth 8mm Cleaning Cartridges clean all drive surfaces that contact the media in a singlepass process. Mammoth Tape technology drives are equipped with a cleaning light which, when lit, indicates cleaning is required. The use of cleaning cartridges ensures both drive performance and data reliability (use of other cleaning methods may void drive warranty).

Why do I need to clean my tape drive? VXA, LTO, Mammoth 1, Mammoth 2, older 8mm and 4mm tape drives require cleaning because circulating air introduces debris into the tape path. For tape drives that use MP (metal particle) tape, polymers from the tape may stain the recording heads, particularly in environments that are very dry. When the recording heads get dirty, error rates may increase and backups can take longer because the tape drive has to rewrite the data in error. To maintain top performance, you must clean your tape drive regularly.
Be sure to clean your tape drive at the recommended intervals. Also, you should always clean your tape drive after any media-related error occurs. When you clean your tape drive, make sure you use the cleaning cartridge specifically designed for your tape drive.
